Traveler’s Rest

If you’re taking a trip to Toccoa Falls or Tallulah Gorge, you may want to stop and explore Traveler’s Rest Historic Site in Stephens County. This stagecoach inn and plantation home was built around 1815 along the then newly-built Unicoi Turnpike, a busy highway over the Appalachian Mountains. Today’s visitors can take a self-guided tour through the home and see many original artifacts and findings. A film explains its historical significance and role in early travel. Most visitors take about an hour to explore the site, which is only open on weekends.
