Roosevelt’s Little White House

Visit Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Little White House in Warm Springs and see the small town that inspired many presidential deals. The president first came to Meriwether County in 1924, hoping to find a cure for his paralysis that resulted from polio. The former governor of New York built this home in 1932, before being inaugurated as president. Visitors can tour the estate, which has been carefully preserved as he left it, including the servants and guest quarters. In addition to the museum, film, and legacy exhibit, guests can also see FDR’s “Unfinished Portrait,” 1938 Ford convertible, his stagecoach and a theater. Pack a lunch to enjoy at one of the picnic areas, enjoy a scavenger hunt, birding, or one of the many education programs.

Swimming in the 88-degree, buoyant spring waters brought him no miracle cure, but it did bring improvement. During FDR’s presidency and the Great Depression, he developed many New Deal Programs (such as the Rural Electrification Administration) based upon his experiences in this small town.” – Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites
