Stephen C. Foster

Stephen C. Foster State Park welcomes you to one of the state’s natural wonders – the Okefenokee Swamp, part of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Guided boat tours of the swamp are available with reservations, including sunset and night tours. Visitors can also rent canoes, kayaks or jon boats to take out on the swamp. The park is part of the Park Paddlers Club, with 15 miles of waterways to explore. Officials estimate that 12,000 of the country’s American alligator population live within the refuge. Make sure you admire them from a distance! The lake is great for fishing. Stargazers will enjoy views of the sky from the park’s 18” telescope. Parkgoers can enjoy lunch at one of the three picnic shelters or let the kids run around on the playground. There are nine cottages available as well as a small campsite. Overnight guests can also make reservations at the Suwannee River Eco-Lodge, which is located less than 20 miles from the park.
