Smithgall Woods

Smithgall Woods State Park is home to one of North Georgia’s premier trout streams, Dukes Creek, and located near Helen. The number of anglers is limited, and fishing is offered only on certain days. The park offers catch and release fishing only, and those interested should call ahead for reservations. Hikers and cyclists can explore tumbling waterfalls, gold mines, streams and wildlife along 23 miles of trails and roadways. Smithgall Woods has six cottages available to rent. Some have porches along the stream, while others have private hot tubs. Visitors can pack lunches to enjoy under one of the five picnic shelters. There is also a Discovery Room Museum and gift shop.
