George L. Smith

George L. Smith State Park, located about an hour northwest of Savannah, offers a small-town atmosphere while providing both recreational and historical experiences for guests. The park is best known for the refurbished Parrish Mill and Pond, a combination gristmill, sawmill, covered bridge and dam built in 1880. Secluded between cypress and tupelo tress draped with Spanish moss, the park is home to an abundance of wildlife. The park’s mill pond welcomes anglers and paddlers. The park rents boats, canoes and kayaks. Hikers and cyclists can enjoy 7 miles of trails. A group shelter near the bridge is popular for family reunions and parties. There are also picnic shelters and a playground. The park is pet friendly.

Overnight guests can camp lakeside or rent a cozy cottage with screened porches nestled into the woods. The park also has an area for RV campers. Restrooms and comfort stations are available.
