Hard Labor Creek

Hard Labor Creek State Park offers outdoor recreational opportunities in a wooded setting. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the park’s name is believed to have come from “salves who tilled summer fields or Native Americans who found the creek difficult to cross”.

Located between Madison and Covington, one of the best-known features of the park is it’s 18-hole golf course. The Creek Golf Course provides a pro shop, driving range, rental carts and special rates for seniors and children. A lakeside beach is popular with swimmers during the summer, and the park offers boat and kayak rentals. More than 24 miles of trails are available for hikers, cyclists and horseback riders. Horse owners even have their own private camping area near stalls. Other guests can choose from the park’s cottages or a modern campground. The park also has restrooms, showers and picnic shelters.

For a fee, children visiting the park can enjoy outreach programs which include casting animal footprints, dissecting owl pellets, interacting with live snakes and more. There is also a miniature golf course and an observatory on the property which is run by the State of Georgia, not the State Park.
