Jackson Hill Trail System – Lee’s Loop

PLOT SUMMARY: Lee’s Loop is 1.8 miles and circles through the Jackson Hill Trail System. The trailhead sign with a system map marks the start of the trail, just beside the parking lot on Jackson Hill. The undulating trail is almost completely shaded and loops around several other marked trails in the system. Follow red signs for Lee’s Loop to stay on the trail. Historic Jackson Hill was the location of Fort Norton, an earthen fortification system which defended Rome during the Civil War. Interpretive markers at the base of Jackson Hill tell the story of the Civil War in Rome. The Georgia’s Rome Welcome Center and Gift Shop is located at the same location and is a helpful resource for trail maps and sights to see while in Rome.
