Don Carter

If you are looking for a quick getaway, try Don Carter State Park. It is Georgia’s newest state park and the first on Lake Lanier. Water lovers will find plenty of activities to choose from, including fishing, a sand covered swimming beach, water skiing, kayaking, paddling, and other seasonal rentals. Boat ramps give quick access to the lake and multi-use trails welcome hikers, cyclists and horseback riders.

In addition to playgrounds and picnic tables, this new park offers several choices for overnight guests. There are primitive camping areas just for tents and hammocks, two-bedroom cabins perched on wooded hillsides and an area for RVs. Public restrooms are also available.

From casting animal footprints to dissecting owl pellets, educational programs will keep kids entertained. The park is pet friendly.
