Still Pond Vineyard and Winery

Past fields of cotton, corn and peanuts in Southwest Georgia, you’ll find Still Pond Vineyard and Winery. Guests can tour the winery and processing facility, stroll through the vineyard, soak up the views of the pond that inspired it all and enjoy a complimentary tasting of 18 award-winning wines. Still Pond Vineyard and Winery offers traditional red and white varieties as well as wines infused with apple, blackberry, blueberry, peach and watermelon. The vineyard also produces Farmhouse Shines, a blend of farmhouse wines and muscadine moonshine and Meads, an alcoholic beverage created by fermenting honey with water. The family-run winery’s name comes from legends that stem from the nearby pond and a piece of alcohol-making equipment, a still, which is used to distill liquid by heating to selectively boil and then cool to condense the vapor.

Sitting on the banks of an isolated pond was a still, turning out peach brandy to provide comfort, relaxation, and escape for exhausted Confederate soldiers…thus the name Still Pond. Through the years, the legend of Still Pond was enhanced by other proprietors of the still. Still Pond Vineyard owner Charles Cowart remembers, ‘When I was growing up the Hunt brothers lived here and were known for the spirits they delivered around.’ – Still Pond Vineyard and Winery
