It is one of north Georgia’s biggest hidden gems – the Lula Lake Land Trust.
Featuring more than 8 miles of hiking trials, Lula Lake Land Trust’s biggest draws are Lula Falls and Lula Lake.
The 120-foot cascading falls are just stunning, and you can walk right up to and behind them, giving a refreshing break on a hot day. There is a set of stairs that take you down to the base of the falls and the basin surrounding the falls.

Not far from the falls is Lula Lake. With a 20-foot natural waterfall at one end, the lake is crystal clear and incredibly blue.
“A unique sandstone dome rises 35 feet over the pool, which beautifully captures the reflections of the ripples of the water in the morning hours,” Atlantatrails.com said about the lake on its website.
Established in 1994, the land trust was willed by Robert M. Davenport who had been acquiring “pieces of property that would later form the core of the land trust project. These original acquisitions included two exquisite natural features, Lula Lake and Lula Falls,” the land trust’s website said. “By the time of his untimely death in 1994, Robert M. Davenport had acquired over 1,200 acres surrounding Lula Lake. Since then, the Land Trust has increased protection within the watershed to over 8,000 acres.”
Because of Davenport’s focus on preservation, the land trust is only open a couple of weekends a month and limits the number of cars that can park at the trust, so you need to plan a visit well in advance.
There is also a parking fee for the land trust, but 100% of the proceeds go back into conservation. To make a reservation, you can go the land trust’s website.
