General Coffee

General Coffee State Park is known for its agricultural history showcased at Heritage Farm. Children will enjoy seeing farm animals including goats, sheep, chickens, pigs and donkeys. Visitors can also explore a corn crib, tobacco barn, cane mill and other exhibits. Seventeen-Mile River and a boardwalk will take hikers through a cypress swamp where rare plants grow and unique animals make their homes. Visitors will also find several picnic shelters to enjoy a meal. Horseback riders can explore 13 miles of riding trails. Stables are not provided, but there are four equestrian campsites.

For overnight accommodations, the park offers campsites for tents and RVs as well as cottages. Sites include water, electric and fire pits, with a nearby comfort station for hot showers. For a romantic getaway, the park offers the Burnham House, which is an elegantly decorated 19th century cabin. The park also has a playground, outdoor amphitheater and educational programs.

The park was donated to the state by a group of Coffee County citizens in 1970. It is named after General John Coffee (1782 – 1836) who was a plantation owner, U.S. Congressman and military leader in the Creek War of 1813-14.
