Fort Yargo

Visitors to Fort Yargo State Park will find a wide variety of outdoor recreation activities and relaxing scenery. The park, located between Atlanta and Athens, features a log fort built by early settlers in 1792 that visitors can explore. A 260-acre lake offers a large swimming beach, fishing and boat ramps. Guests can rent canoes, kayaks or paddleboards to take out on the water. Mountain bikers and hikers have more than 20 miles of trails to explore. For an extra fee, guests can try their luck at a round of disc golf or miniature golf.

While the park features typical cottages, cabins and campsites, visitors can also reserve lakeside “glamping” yurts. These are canvas and wooden structures that have furniture and electricity. Those bringing along their four-legged family members will also find some pet-friendly rentals.

Fort Yargo State Park is also a location for weddings, reunions and other celebrations. Visitors have several facilities to chose from including group shelters and lake-view pavilions.
